Action for the Needy in Ethiopia convened 2nd General Assembly in 2016

On January 9, 2016 Action for the Needy in Ethiopia convened 2nd General Assembly at Addisa Ababa Ghion Hotel Awash conference Hall. The General Assembly was attended by invited guests from Government offices, private companies, Embassies, UN organizations and NGOs which are currently working in partnership with ANE.

Having thoroughly discussed on various issues the General Assembly unanimously took the following decisions.
  • The General Assembly endorsed ANEs progress report and future strategic direction presented by the Board chairman.
  • The General Assembly endorsed detail progress report (2013-2015) and 2016 physical plan and budget presented by the executive director of ANE.
  • The General Assembly endorsed audit report of ANE between (2013-2015) presented by external auditor.
  • The General Assembly endorsed 2016-2020 strategic plan of ANE
  • The General Assembly elected New Board members, Internal Auditor and Advisory committee.
  • Having taken in to account the current El-Nino induced drought disaster in some parts of Ethiopia, the General assembly elected fund raising committee who have 7 members to strengthen the ongoing fund raising initiative of ANE with the objective of addressing the heart-felt needs of drought affected compatriots in ANE operation area.
  • Finally; ANE rewarded different Embassies, Private companies and donor organizations who have given relentless support for the success of ANE in the past four years.

Drought response emergency water trucking operation in Sude Woreda in 2015

In 2015, as a result of El-Nino induced drought incidence, ANE has given quick response to the request of Sude district administration through deploying one water trucker (20,000 litter capacity)to deliver potable water to drought affected households in Sude district in Arsi Zone of Oromia regional state. So far 540,000 liters of potable water has been distributed for 700 drought affected households as of January 9, 2015.

Shelter construction to Refugees in Megado and Dillo camps in 2015

In 2015 in partnership with UNHCR and ARRA, ANE constructed 158 houses 90 shelters in Megado and 68 shelters in Dillo camps and handed over to beneficiaries.
On the other hand, having seen the great demand for shelter for those relocated Refugees from Ashura and Sherkole to Tsore temporary refugee location, ANE constructed and handed-over 100 tukuls (transitional Shelters) by its own budget in 2015 fiscal year.

Self-reliance and livelihood Intervention in Dillo and Megado Refugees camps

In 2015, having prepared appropriate implementation modality, ANE distributed 1,500 breeding sheep and goats for 673 Refugee households in Dillo and Megado camps for their livelihood improvement with the support of UNHCR.

Rural water development project in Bule Hora Woreda, Borena zone of Oromia Regional State

In 2015, With the support of Japan Embassy residing in Addis Ababa, spring protection at 3 sites, construction of Hand Dug Well at 3 sites, Construction of shallow well at 2 sites, construction of Rain water catchment at 2 sites and construction of Latrine Block at 2 sites have been fully accomplished and handed over to the beneficiary community.

In general 100% of the planned project components were accomplished in 12 sites and 7,000 people benefited from the rural water supply project in Bule-Hora Woreda, Borena zone of Oromia Regional State.

Rehabilitation and Maintenance of water schemes at Bule-Hora Woreda with material support of TIKA in 2015

In 2015, ANE has implemented rehabilitation of 9 Shallow- Wells, 1 Hand- dug wells and 2 springs at 12 target Peasant Associations (PAs) in Bule- Hora Woreda and 8,025 people benefited from the rehabilitation operation with the material support of TIKA. The administration cost of the rehabilitation operation covered by Action for the Needy in Ethiopia.

Water trucking program for Dillo and Megado Refugee camps between 2014 and 2015

From July 2014 up to December 2014 ANE facilitated distribution of 23,437,000 liters of water to 7,679 Refugees and Host communities at Dillo and Megado. Moreover in 2015 ANE implemented water trucking activity with financial support of UNHCR and distributed 56,453,980litters of potable water for 7,679 Kenyan Borena Refugees and Host communities at Dillo and Megado camps.

Water trucking program for south Sudanese Refugee in Jewi Refugees camp (Gambella Region) in 2015

In 2015, ANE has extended the water trucking project to the newly opened Jewi Refugee camp that currently is hosting 47,821 relocated refugees from Letchore and Nip Nip camps. Since April 2015 a total of 103,395,000 liters of treated water was apportioned until 31,December of 2015 using 12 trucks.

Educational Material Support in 2015

In 2015, Action for the Needy in Ethiopia (ANE) in collaboration with KIMSE YOK MU Africa Regional office supported 600 orphan and Vulnerable children through provision of educational materials (one School Bag, one Dozen Exercise Books, twelve Pen and twelve Pencils per each beneficiary) in Abomsa town, Arsi Zone ,Oromia Regional state. The distribution took place in the presence of Merti woreda Administrator, Mayor of Abomsa town, Head of Merti Woreda Education office and invited elders of Abomsa town.

Field vehicle delivered to ANE from charities and societies agency of the FDRE in 2015

Charities and societies Agency of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia handed over second-hand Ford-Ranger Double-cabinet field vehicle to ANE in July, 2015.
Very good track record so far registered by ANE enabled it to win the competition that was made among various NGOs that are currently working in the area of humanitarian intervention. As a result; charities and societies Agency of the FDRE decided to handover field vehicle to ANE with the objective of further strengthening the humanitarian operations that have currently been implemented in different corners of the country.

Pit Latrine construction to refugees in Dillo and Megado camps

In 2014-2015 ANE constructed 10 communal pit latrines at Dillo and Megado refugee camps with the budget support of UNHCR.

Distribution of Sheep and goats to pastoral area and Refugees between 2014 and 2015 fiscal year

In 2013,2014 and 2015 ANE distributed 4,495 sheep and goats for 2,800 for vulnerable pastoral households and Refugee community in Dillo and Megado Refugee camps with the financial support of TiKA/Turkye Diyanet Foundation.

Provision of supplementary food to Refugees in Dillo and Megado camps

In 2014, ANE procured and distributed 118 quintals of rice and 10 quintals of sugar to Refugees at Dillo and Megado camps beside the water trucking program with the financial support of Upstream Investment.

Distribution of Jerican to Refugees in Dillo and Megado camps in 2014

In line with water trucking program, ANE procured and distributed 673 Jeri cans to Refugees at Dillo and Megado camps.

Program Launching event at Adola town in 2014

Project launching and training workshop on prevention of communicable diseases was organized by ANE in 2014 at Adola town, Gujji Zone, Oromia regional state with financial support of Australia Embassy.

Cloth distribution to orphan and vulnerable children (OVC)

In 2013, ANE distributed 5,000 clothes to orphan and vulnerable children in Addis Ababa, Negelle, Udet, Moyale and Bule Hora. The distribution took place in the presence of Donor Embassy, Higher Government officials and the families of vulnerable children and other invited guests.
